With his blue eyes, my husband is very sensitive to sunlight and has to be careful about overexposure. When it comes to sunglasses, he prefers to buy one very good pair and then make it last, rather than have a bunch of the cheap and cheerful variety. So far his favourites have been his Maui Jim's but they are showing their age. I accepted this pair of men's sunglasses because I am really delighted with my own Duco Classic Star which have become my firm favourites since buying them a few months ago.
My husband is equally pleased with his Duco sunglasses and uses them for driving as well as to go about on sunny days. So, based on his experience of the last three weeks, he says that they feel very light on his face and fit his head closely but comfortably. The temple tips have a springy quality and the rubberised nose pads make them sit solidly in place even through energetic movement without pinching. The shape seems designed to flatter most faces, and I certainly love the way they look on him. I chose the Mirror model and, in person, they look great. The frame is minimal, just the temples and the nose bridge in a silver shade, while the lenses are rimless and have a very cool mirror finish. The lenses are scratch-resistant, and the polarized UV-reducing effect works very well, shielding his eyes effectively but retaining perfect visibility. |
Colours are not altered, just intensified, and the glasses are relaxing to wear even on very bright days. He likes the fact that the lenses let him see clearly even when he steps inside a darker environment, like coming in the house after being out in glaring sunlight.
The packaging deserves a full description because these glasses come beautifully presented in a nice black box quite suitable for gift-giving. Inside is a zipped hard-shell case covered in ballistic nylon fabric and equipped with a substantial carabiner for clipping to a belt or loop in a backpack, for example; then there is a soft draw-string bag, a good-quality cleaning cloth, the UV test card and a keyring with a tiny two-ended screwdriver, for the screws that hold the hinges. Having had a few come loose, I appreciate the inclusion of this specialist tool. At the current price of £18, they are a superb everyday choice and I can highly recommend them to save your eyes from the sun or just to look supremely cool.

I bought these big, bold sunglasses while they were discounted, and I think they look really glamorous, something Grace Kelly might have worn! They feel very light on my face and fit me nicely, despite being rather large. The shape seems to flatter most faces, and I certainly love the way they look. The most obvious design detail is the two metal circles at the hinges, a small accent, but it does lighten the look of all that dark glass and gives the plain setting a pretty focal point, especially from the sides.
Most sunglasses slide down my nose and seem too wide for me (I suppose it's my small face), so I was delighted to see that these stay put even when I move energetically. There is a certain springy quality to the temple tips that I thought would be uncomfortable but, on the contrary, after a while I don't even notice having them on. The Polaroid UV-reducing effect is great, my eyes are very sensitive to sunlight and I love the shielding that these provide. They cut the glare but, even indoors, I find the visibility excellent. I got the Black frames, but it was tough to choose. The other colours also look beautiful … maybe next time. |
The packaging contributes to the deluxe presentation and makes them very suitable for gift giving: the classy black box contains a zipped hard-shell case covered in ballistic nylon fabric and with carabiner (should you wish to attach it to a belt or the outside of a handbag); also included are a silky fabric draw-string bag, a cleaning cloth, a test card and, most usefully, a small two-ended custom screwdriver for the hinges. When those incredibly small screws come off your glasses, you really need a specialist tool, and this is it! Very thoughtful.
The lenses are scratch-resistant, Even at full price (currently £19 or $25 US), they are a great choice and I can highly recommend them to save your eyes from the sun or just to look super-cool.

These are seriously cool sunglasses! I lost track of the number of sunglasses I've bought over the years. All shapes and sizes but most with one set of lenses. Even my prescription glasses with a clip-on anti-glare attachment only offer two choices: clear or heavily shaded.
So I was really impressed when I got this brilliant kit from Kurtzy, for evaluation and review. For a start the container is beautiful. A hard-shell, covered in ballistic-type nylon fabric, large enough to house the contents very safely embedded in spongy foam material, but still compact enough that it can go in one of my handbags without taking up all the space. I admit, being a female of a certain age, I have been gravitating towards the larger hold-all types of handbags for a while, but I still think the case is only a little bigger than my average ones for a single pair of glasses. |
Inside is the sunshades kit, composed of: a lightweight frame which sits very comfortably on my face and any other face I have tried it on (male and female); a smart carrying pouch with drawstrings (in case you find the main container too bulky); and five easily interchangeable sunshades ranging from almost clear to virtually impenetrable. I easily forgive Kurtzy the omission of a cleaning cloth because I've got lots of those already.
Changing shades is very easy and does not require any tools or particular effort. You just ease out the two wings, and apply a little pressure behind the centrepiece to unclip it and the shades pop off; you then invert the order: position the new set over the nose bridge, clip into place and secure the two wings. The lenses feel very strong and flexible and seem to resist ordinary scratching. So far, they still look brand-new. The UV protection is very welcome in bright sunshine and I find the visibility excellent.
In use the glasses are so light I forget I've got them on. They stay on nicely during moderately bouncy activities, such as skipping rope and elliptical cross-training but I haven't been on a bicycle for years, so did not test that. I like all the shades but my current favourites are the flashy ones that reflect a rainbow of colours. Shallow, I know! The current price of less than £10 is ridiculously low for the quality and all the options included. Highly recommended for sporting use or just to look cool.
