Jimmy Design: Women's Gym Leggings
A sample of these new Luck Panther compression leggings was sent to me at no cost for evaluation and to verify the size.
First of all, let me say that they look much fancier in real life than I expected. So don't let the plain photos and description put you off. They are much more than yoga tights. These leggings give me effective compression for leg-intensive workouts like elliptical cross-training and squats, but remain flexible and comfortable. The fabric (a mix of 15% Spandex and 85% Nylon) delivers effective heat control, keeping my muscles warm at the start and preventing overheating later on.
The styling is sober and classic, all black with a light-reflective logo on the left hip and the brand name discreetly running along the lower calf on both sides. What I really love about them is that they have a well designed high-rise waist and are long enough in the leg. For me there is nothing worse than compressive sport garments that creep down over the hips. The waist has a wide inner elastic band and a moderately elastic drawstring to further customize the fit, if required. They are also very flattering to the figure. I received a size Medium which fits me perfectly and is consistent with the size chart. For reference, I am 5'8”, waist 29”, hips 38” and normally wear a UK size 10.
Manufacture is excellent, well in line with the best compression garments I have tested. Strong, flat stitching, thin but substantial material with good stretch and a little hidden pocket for a token, key or other small object. Easy to wash and quick to dry using the cold delicate wash cycle, and tumble dry on low (personally, I never put this type of fabric in the dryer). Excellent exercise leggings that make me look and feel good.
A sample of this new style was sent to me at no cost for evaluation and to verify the size. First of all, a size Large fits smaller than the Purple pattern I previously reviewed. As I was in between sizes, they work for me and are long enough in the leg but afford much stronger compression which, in my case, is what I wanted. For reference, I am 5'8”, waist 29”, hips 38” and normally wear a UK size 10. These leggings fit me tightly but still allow me all the movement range I need when working out.
Currently there are two style choices: a very pale pastel design, essentially baby pink, and this jazzy leopard spotted print with the spots rendered, for some reason, in a shade of violet/grey. It's different and more inventive than the usual black, but has a faint pyjama vibe and doesn't do your figure any favours. Perhaps an incentive to work out harder?
The fabric is 27% Spandex and 73% Polyester, giving good stretch without bunching behind the knees. The waist has a narrow inner elastic at the top (no draw string) and doesn't creep down. The leggings are well made with very strong, neat stitching but, as I said before, they are cut tight, so consider going up a size if you dislike strong compression. A cold 30°C wash is mandatory to keep this type of synthetic fabric in good nick, and drip drying (no tumbling), but they do dry quickly.
The leggings dissipate heat and sweat, and stay reliably put during exercise. I love wearing them, especially when I need compression, but I would welcome more variety in design and colour choices. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 for fit and good length.
I simply adore these leggings! I received a sample at no cost for an independent evaluation and can honestly say that they are beautiful and unbelievably comfortable. They are long enough for me (which is often not the case), fit perfectly with just a little compression, and allow me to move freely in any direction. No tightness behind the knee, no pulling down from the waist. In my tests, with and without, I found that the moderate compression assists my workout, as compared to not wearing them.
According to the label, the fabric is a blend of 78% Nylon and 22% Spandex (or Lycra). It feels very silky and comfortable on the skin, both during and after exercise. Sweat is wicked away and the leggings are a medium thickness which feels warm in cold weather and cool in hot, so very accommodating. I chose the Black/Violet. I love the pattern and colours, just as you see them in the photos. These are workout leggings to wear by themselves, but can easily be worn under heavier fleece if needed.
Very good quality of manufacturing, all seams are tight and flat and there is a little zipped pocket in the waistband at the back (big enough for a credit card, token, key or small MP3), and another smaller, open pocket in the inside of the waistband at the front. The waistband is double thickness and less elastic than the leggings and there is an inner chord for a perfect fit. Easy to wash, and they dry well and quickly on the line. This type of fabric is damaged by heat, so you should stick to a cool 30 degree wash (no conditioner) and, preferably, line dry.
Size-wise, I am 5'8”, waist 29” and hips 38”. On the vendor's advice, I went up a size from what the measurement chart indicates to make sure they would be long enough. I got a Large which fits me well, but a Medium would also have worked and given me a little more compression. I think you should choose based on your hip size because the waistline is not very elastic. If you have wide hips, like me, you might want to order based on that. Gorgeous workout leggings and very comfortable to wear.
