Argan Anti-ageing Cream (SheaLite)
This is a very different product from the serums I
have tried until now. In fact, it's more like a cream, although it
functions as a base or serum. When I accepted to test it, I was
intrigued by the long list of plant derived extracts and essential
oils in its rather unique formulation. I won't bore you by
reproducing the whole list of ingredients, since they are very
clearly detailed in the product description, except to say that many
are soothing and high in vitamin content. Missing are the chemical
compounds and toxic ingredients that I have managed to avoid for over
a year, and my face is testament to the benefits of going natural. I
can use face oils without looking greasy and my skin's tendency to
break out under stress has almost abated. Also very important to me,
no animal testing, and the product comes with a full 30 days
money-back guarantee.
The bottle looks rather homely with a pump dispenser for the generous 100 ml of thick, almost glue-like cream which gives the impression of being heavy textured, but actually melts on contact with the skin and spreads easily to leave a completely mat finish. I call it dual-purpose because it's not like most serums which must be topped with a moisturizer or else. |
Apart from the unusual texture, the argan oil,
coconut oil and mango butter content is evident in the long-term
smoothness that stays in the skin and I feel that the fine lines on
my face are a little less evident. I find that it has an immediate
tightening effect, without drying my skin. It's also immediately
soothing when I have been needling my face. Ideal for daytime use
because of the mat appearance, but also great for the night, when I
follow it with one or two hydrating creams. Also economical because
a few pumps is all I need for each application. Two of us have been
using it twice daily for the past three weeks and there is plenty
left. Lovely product that I can happily recommend.
A good multi-purpose product to combat dryness in both hair and skin. I have used hair products in the past featuring Argan Oil, but this is the first time I have tried the oil itself in such large proportion. This formulation also contains Vitamin E, coconut oil and avocado oil, as well as some silicones commonly used in cosmetics and hair products to produce a silky effect without weighing down the hair.
Since I was contacted to evaluate these products for review purposes, I have given this oil a thorough testing on both hair and skin. I like it best as a hair mask treatment (meaning that I apply a teaspoonful to my shoulder-length hair until it feels fairly oily and heavy). I leave the oil on for some hours before shampooing and conditioning as usual. My hair is in poor shape at the moment, due to swimming pool chlorine and careless sun exposure this past summer, so it needs a lot more than just routine care. I then add a couple of pumps of the oil to my wet hair before drying. The results are very good and, after a few treatments, my hair is already softer and not so frizzy. I also like the oil as a dry skin rub. It's really good for legs and arms because, although initially it feels really oily, when the carrier portion of it evaporates, the skin is left soft and very smooth. It's useful also as a massage oil base. You can add a few drops of your favourite essential oils and the resulting mix will allow a little time for massaging before being absorbed. |
I have also tried it on my face as a night-time moisturizer and, again, it looks amazingly oily but it does sink in. As a face softener, it is suitable for younger skin than mine (I am 61) and I find that it is not quite rich enough as an everyday wrinkle fighter. Another good application is as a localized treatment for hands and nails.
I am moving away from artificial ingredients in my choice of skin care, so I would prefer to see a more uniformly natural list of ingredients and that is my reason for withholding a star. This is still a very nice moisturizer with a lovely, light fruity scent with a hint of lemon, and very effective as a hair conditioner.
